Art / Science

Art-science interactions help to stimulate intuitive thinking that is not reachable by pure rational inquiry alone. Lab members therefore regularly engage in dialogues with major artists and musicians to develop new creative works shown in major exhibition spaces and theatres.

Linking Linke

Linking LinkeHow do you choose from a collection of thousands of images? CSL researcher Peter Hanappe has developed the “Linking Linke” project which dives into the vast archive of pictures by Armin Linke and explores how coherent collections can be made using the technologies of social tagging and emergent semantics on the one hand, and the dynamical processes between users on the other.

Duets with the Continuator

Albert van Veenendaal and the ContinuatorThe Continuator, developed by Francois Pachet, is a music system which allows musicians to “play with themselves”: the system is able to pick up the musical style of the musician and respond with musical phrases of its own so that a dialogue emerges in which the music evolves and changes in interaction with the human player. Several top musicians have already played duets with the Continuator, both in the domains of classical contemporary music (Gyorgy Kurtag jr. and sr.) and Jazz (Bernard Lubat, Alain Silva and Albert van Veenendaal).
