Press release for the OpenHouse 2004, in english and french.
Sony CSL is a fundamental research laboratory working in cutting edge
research fields with a great potential for revolutioning information
technology and its applications.
Since its founding in 1996, the
laboratory has organised bi-annual public symposia in Paris on exciting
novel topics relevant to science, technology
and society.
A first symposium (organised in the Galerie de l'Evolution
in 1996) was on the origins and evolution of language. A second symposium
(organised in the Musee d'Art Moderne de la ville de Paris in 1998)
focused on complex systems science and its impact on a diverge range of
fields. The third symposium (organised in the Institut Curie 2000)
focused on 'Language and the Brain' and explored the neurological
foundations of language. The most recent one (in 2002) explored issues
in neuroscience, particularly in relation to sensori-motor control and
the cerebellum (see past symposia webpage).
This year symposium is on the theme of Creativity. The
event consists of a symposium, open house, and concert. The symposium
gathers leaders in the field for a day of conference lectures. The open
house presents the CSL Paris facilities and the researching taking place
at the laboratory. The concert is a first for a CSL symposium, and
presents a program of music by pioneers of digital music creation.
Please note that attendance at the open house is by invitation.
