The Events

Robots as an interactive medium

Panel discussion with: Frédéric Kaplan, Rolf Pfeifer, Pierre-Yves Oudeyer, Takashi Ikegami, Bruno Maisonnier, Denis Vidal [TBC].

Robots can be more than useful machines. They are currently developing as a new medium for interaction, entertainment, and art, as illustrated with the installation AIBO's playroom. This panel discusses some ideas and experiments in the creative use of robotics and talks about the general future of robotics and artificial intelligence. We also take this festive occasion to launch a new MIT Press book by Rolf Pfeifer and Josh Bongard "How the body shapes the way we think."

Collaborative Collection Making - iKoru and Linking Linke

Panel discussion with Armin Linke, Peter Hanappe, Melanie Aurnhammer, Ciro Cattuto, and students from the University of Venice, fDA clAVES undergraduate degree in Visual Arts and Theatre

The digital availability of images and the web make it possible as never before to share pictures and collections. This panel examines the role of collaborative tagging and image processing in this process against the background of a concrete project that led to the collections shown in the exhibition.

Le Cas de Sophie K. - The method of the theatre and the method of science

Panel discussion with Jean-Francois Peyret and Luc Steels (authors), Elina Löwensohn (actress), Alexandros Markeas (composer), Pierre Nouvel (video).

The theatre piece "Le Cas de Sophie K." - performed last year at the Avignon Theatre Festival and this year at the National Theatre of Chaillot in Paris - explored how the theatre can approach scientific subjects and scientific personalities. This panel brings together some of the artists and scientists involved in this project and discusses their experiences.

"In Janus we Trust" - The challenge of publishing about the edges of art and science

Panel discussion with Nicola Setari, Charlotte Bonduel, Francesca di Nardo, Fabien Verschaere, Régis Debray, Marleen Wynants, Ken Mogi.

This event centers around the challenge to make publications that are on the borderline of art and science, with the successful Janus magazine (originally launched by Jan Fabre) as case study. The panel brings together the editors, writers, artists, and scientists that have featured in the magazine which at this occasion will experience its relaunch in Paris.
