Intensive Science

Introduction

Ten years ago, the Sony Computer Science Laboratory of Tokyo opened a small-scale sister laboratory in Paris on the initiative of Dr. T. Doi and Dr. M. Tokoro. Since then, the laboratory has established itself as one of the most innovative and well recognized European laboratories doing fundamental research with a potentially large impact on Information Technology.

To celebrate the tenth anniversary of Sony CSL Paris, there will be a scientific symposium in which we present some groundbreaking results of researchers at Sony CSL. and an exhibition in which we show some of the dialogues CSL researchers have had with artists over the past ten years. These science-art interactions help to stimulate intuitive thinking that is not reachable by pure rational inquiry. Both the symposium and exhibition are held at the Maison Rouge in Paris and present what we believe to be Intensive Science.
